Summer is winding down but there's still lots of things happening in Miramichi and the surrounding area.

August 19 -20
The 1st Annual Miramichi Rotary Dragon Boat Festival launches at Waterford Green. Teams of 24 people will race against each other in 46ft dragon boats to raise funds for Chatham Rotary Club. There will be vendors, entertainment and fun for the whole family.

August 20 21
Miramichi Annual Fly-In presented by members of the local Canadian Owners & Pilots Association and sponsored by the Miramichi Airport Commission offers youth between the ages of 7 to 17 to learn about the basics of flying.

August 25 - 29
2011 Baseball Canada Senior Men Championships hosted by the Chatham O'Donaghue's Ironmen at Ironmen Field on John Street and Waldo Henderson Field on Bridge Road.

August 26 - 28
Miramichi Scottish Festival featuring a Candlelight Tartan Ball, Evening Cailidh and Kirkin of the Tartans.

September 16 - 18
Miramichi Country Music Festival hosted by Bill Mullin at the Miramichi Country Music Opry promises to be a toe-tappin' good time.

Summer is in full swing with so many things to see and do in Miramichi.

Take part in a variety of activities offered through the New Brunswick Tourism Experience Collection along the Miramichi River Route. From tubing along the river, an authentic kitchen party and salmon fishing there's lots to keep the whole family busy for days.

July 14 - 17
Canada's Irish Festival in Miramichi kicks off on Thursday, July 14 with an outdoor concert at Waterford Green and continues until Saturday the 17th with pubs, cultural activities and a family day. Live at 5, the CTV Atlantic popular news magazine show, will be broadcasting from the festival on Friday so be sure to catch it between 5 and 6 pm (AST).

July 20
Due to the first sell out performance of, "The Icing On The Cake" The Heritage Players will take to the stage once again with a Dessert/Theatre. It will feature stories and musical impersonations of guests who have performed at the festival such as, Rita MacNeil, Men of the Deeps, Tommy Hunter, Stompin Tom. just to name a few. The Miramichi Exhibition, celebrates it's 88th year with Midway Rides, Farmyard Display, Farmland Babies, Nightly Entertainment, 4-H Competition, Light Horse & Pony Display, Market

The Eddy Coffey Group will be at the Miramichi Country Music Opry on Saturday, July 23rd. This group from Newfoundland raise funds to support our Troops & Veterans and also the Children's Miracle Network. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Call 836-9988 or 622-4403.

Starting Saturday, July 23 and continuing on Saturday & Sunday evenings during the warm summer months, the King George B & B presents "Dining on the Deck". The Salmon & Fiddlehead Festival in Doaktown, NB is chock full of activities like suppers, entertainment, dessert theatre, breakfast, market, helicopter tours, home & garden tour, antique cars, bbq, river run & clean up, golf, parade and fireworks.

It's sure to be a toe tappin' good time at the Miramichi Fiddle Festival. All events are held at the Seamen's Museum and include concerts, breakfasts and a pot luck supper. Schedule

The 54th Annual Miramichi Folksong Festival offers a full line up of entertainers including Laura Smith, Nathan Rogers along with a host of local and regional talent. Starting with the open air gospel concert followed by noon luncheons, evening concerts and the "Folk Song Feast & Fun" experience, it promises a week full of music and down home hospitality.

There's lots of snow now and temperatures have warmed up a bit making it ideal for snowmobiling. Check out the Miramichi Valley Snowmobile Club's website for updates on trail conditions.

The 7th Annual Miramichi Rotary Pond Hockey Tournament takes place February 4-6. There are 95 teams registered. The "pond" was moved to a new location this year due to the unseasonably warmer temperatures earlier in the month. The action takes place on the Miramichi Airport Property with entrance at the Help Desk Now building. Check out their website for details on this years events including fireworks on Saturday evening at 8 pm.

The Miramichi White Gold Festival runs February 11 - 13. There are lots of activities taking place.

Snow has covered the ground and with more in the forecast it's time to start thinking about winter activities. It won't be long until the groomers are out clearing the snowmobile and cross country ski trails.

Stores are decorated for the season and there's a host of events to attend to get yourself in the holiday spirit.

A Christmas Open House from noon to 8pm. Stop by the Miramichi Landings Welcome Centre at 1733 Water Street and join in the festive celebrations. Refreshments will be served all day, and there will door prizes to be won as well. Be sure to stick around after the Parade of Lights, as our guest of honour, Santa Claus himself, will be making a special appearance.

The 25th Annual Christmas Parade of Lights begins at 6:30 p.m. from NBCC Miramichi on University Avenue making it's way to Historic Water Street.

St. Mark's UCW will hold a Christmas Craft Sale and Tea at the Community Center, Douglastown on Saturday November 06, 2010 from 10:00am till 2:00 pm. Admission is free. Lunches will be sold.

Murder on the Menu - Christmas Theme Murder Mystery Dinner -King George Bed & Breakfast - Want to take part in an unforgettable evening of laughter and intrigue while dining in style? Beginning in November and continuing through the winter months, we will be hosting Murder Mystery dinners for groups of 8-16.

The premise is that one of the guests is guilty of committing a murder and while he or she tries to elude detection, the other guests try to solve the crime. Participants receive an info package about their character they will portray as well as suggested questions, secrets and costume recommendations to assist them in their role. The only rule is that you cannot lie!

The evening begins at 6:00PM and includes a 5-course dinner beginning with hors d'oeuvres and a 'cocktail hour'; then everyone proceeds to the table to enjoy what happens next! Remember, once the murderer has killed, he/she will not hesitate to do so again! So sharpen your wits and enjoy being a suspect, victim or innocent bystander while you solve the mystery!

The Salmon Museum Players Present “Dealt a Deadly Hand” Murder at the River Room Casino Get out your lucky hat, because the Salmon Museum Players are about to unveil a mystery dinner show that spoofs the movie “Casablanca” and the dream of winning the jackpot. Penned by Tony Schwartz and Marylou Ambrose, the show, Dealt a Deadly Hand: Murder at the River Room Casino, takes place at Rick’s club, the first legal gambling casino in Doaktown. Rick dreams of striking it rich – then two crafty aboriginals try to claim the land and his gold-digging ex-wife Lola shows up. Throw in a two-faced lawyer, an Australian Croc Chaser with bad luck, and two little old ladies on a gambling mission, and "making a killing" takes on a whole new meaning.

Will the aboriginals take over the casino? Will the Choc Chaser win back his farm? Will the Portabella sisters find their missing g-string? Will the lawyer decide how to play his cards? Will Lola and Rick get back together for richer or poorer? And will Rick ever be cured of his Bogart complex?

4 Hours of French Fort Cove, event begins at 11 am, register between 8:30-11:30 am. The 4 Hours of French Fort Cove is back with a vengeance this fall for the fifth time! The 12 Km course is the perfect setting for this family oriented trail bike event. If you haven't entered before this is the year to start, we have always targeted this event to encourage riders who may not have ever considered racing their mountain bike but would like to participate in an event of some sort. Miramichi Folksong Festival

Canada’s longest standing folksong festival - Miramichi Folksong Festival , features five days of song and dance with performances by entertainers of all ages. The theme this year is “Music for the Family” and many of the acts are comprised of talented family groups. From traditional Miramichi folksongs to contemporary folk music and dance the festival features entertainers from the Maritimes, Ontario and locally performing at breakfasts, luncheons and concerts.

Canada's Irish Festival on the Miramichi

You don’t have to be Irish, although it helps, to join in the celebrations at the 27th Annual Canada’s Irish Festival July 15th to 18th in Miramichi. Some of the highlights include an outdoor concert, pubs, Irish Dance School, genealogy, workshops, Molly’s Tea Room and
the popular Family Walking Parade. With local entertainers plus performers from all over Canada and the United States you are sure to hear an eclectic blend of Celtic music throughout the four day festival. Don’t forget to check out the abundance of Celtic crafts, souvenirs and art work at the vendor booths in the Lord Beaverbrook Arena. And keep your eyes peeled for Kavanagh, the Irish Festival Amabassador. He has welcomed visitors with a warm smile and hearty laugh for over a decade. So pack something green to wear and come visit us during Canada’s Irish Festival.
